Making low carb simple

Instructions

  1. Fry the bacon in a pan over medium high heat until crispy. Put aside on a plate. Leave the rendered fat in the pan.

  2. Use the same pan to fry the eggs. Place it over medium heat and crack your eggs into the bacon grease. You can also crack them into a measuring cup and carefully pour into the pan to avoid splattering.

  3. Cook the eggs any way you like them. For sunny side up — leave the eggs to fry on one side and cover the pan with a lid to make sure the yolks cook too. For over-easy eggs — flip the eggs over after a few minutes and cook for another minute. Cut the cherry tomatoes in half and fry them at the same time.

  4. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Is bacon keto?

If you’ve been asking —is bacon keto, we’re here to tell you, yes! Among other pork products, bacon is high in fat, making it the ideal candidate for a keto-friendly, low carb breakfast. Make sure that the bacon you choose does not have added sugars or additives. Organic bacon is a good choice if you can find it.

I dont know how you can have a vegan version of bacon and eggs! Any thing else would be just plain different. Perhaps try green leafy green veg fried in coconut oil?

There might be hidden carbs and wheat as a percentage of filling in the sausages if they are not completely gluten free and the highest meat content possible. I'd be inclined to use mincemeat with a mixture of steak and pork - fresh from the butcher's - or ground beef as Americans tend to call it - and be sure. But your recipe just sounds wonderful and would say very low carb as opposed to no carb but then we're not aiming for no carb! Thanks so much.

Hi, I like to make breakfast lasagne. Omelet of two eggs, sausage in it, wrap it, cheese on top of it, love it!! Is this low carb?

Hello everyone, I just started the Keto Diet and have been logging my foods using Livestrong's MyPlate .It is very useful as it instantly adds calories , carbs, fats, protein, etc. Does Diet Doctor offer something similar?

Is antibiotic free bacon the same as organic bacon ? I've never seen organic bacon so I've always used the antibiotic free. I get it from Costco.

Bacon generally doesn't have carbs unless there's too much sugar added during curing or if it's a maple/sugar flavored bacon. The carbs in this recipe come from the eggs. Eggs have about .6g carbs each.

Explain how this is ketogenic and not just low carb? This meal is probably more percent protein than fat. You and 90% of other keto recipe makers are giving incorrect information. Too much protein will kick you out of ketosis. You want at least 70% fat. To make this meal keto I would suggest adding heavy cream to the eggs and scramble them. Heavy cream is about 50 calories of pure fat per tbsp, eggs are about 70 calories (close to 50/50 fat and protein). 1 tbsp heavy cream per egg should get you to near true keto. Bacon is also not true keto in terms of numbers. Sick and tired of seeing false information. I'd bet 95% of ketoers are not in ketosis and just are losing weight due to calorie deficit, but not losing the actual fat (still okay, but not the true point of attempting the diet)

For vegans: Get Tofu Scramble (it's a mix, do a search on it) and veggie bacon bits are great or you may find it in a strip form, or there are lots of vegan sausages - Tofurkey brand has very few carbs and they are really good! Beyond Meat, Gardein, and Boca are all very good meat substitutes and low in carbs depending on the type. Don't know the carbs in TofuScramble. I'm eating free range and organic dairy while I get my carbs & sugars down, and then I'll go back to vegan carefully and see if it works. Yea vegans and people conscious enough to know it's not necessary to eat animals and cause all that suffering when there are so many other things healthier to eat:-)

Kirsten - I would like to understand your percentages better. For this meal you have carbs, fat, protein as 1g+22g+15g = 38g. That would be 58% fat, how do you get 75% ?

The setting at the beginning is to adjust the shopping list. When you click through from the meal planner or challenge, it takes you to the original recipe page.

You don't add anything to fry the bacon in. It renders out its own fat, which is more than enough!

I'm new to keto. My biggest struggle is trying to eat eggs over easy (how I like them) and nothing absorb the yoke. I know it's a psychological thing, and appreciate it if you have any suggestions. I'm not sure if eating bread like replacements is good for a beginner of Keto. This is not something I would eat every day, but consider a treat at least once or twice a week.

I'm unsure how Diet Doctor has calculated the macro percentages. Assuming that you have 22g fat, 15g protein and 1g carb per serving as stated. Surely that equates to 58% Fat (22/(22+15+1)), 39% Protein (15/(22+15+1)) and 3% Carb (1/(22+15+1)).

Could you please explain how you've calculated 75%, 23% and 2% please, as I haven't figured it out yet.

The macro percentages are based on calories for each macronutrient. Fat contains 9 calories per gram of fat, carbohydrates and protein have 4 calories per gram.

The tomatoes used in this serving suggestion are the little grape/cherry tomatoes. Tomatoes have about 3g net carbs per 100g of tomato.

Beware. This website fails at basic maths.
    nutrition as per above:
    Net carbs: 1 % (1 g) WRONG ACTUALLY 2%
    Fat: 78 % (32 g) WRONG ACTUALLY 60%
    Protein: 21 % (20 g) WRONG ACTUALLY 38%

How can you have made such a big error on this and every other recipe i have looked at in this guide.
with these percentages above it will likely knock you out of keto. Beware. Do the maths yourselves as a precaution.

Ian, the percentages are the percent of calories from each macronutrient. Fat has 9 calories per gram while protein and carbohydrates have 4 calories per gram. In this recipe, there are 288 calories from fat (9x32) and 84 calories from protien and carbohydrates [(1+20)X4] for 372 total calories. This gives 78% of the calories (288/372) from fat and 22% of calories from protein and carbohydrates. I hope this helps.
